The Dry Side Dispatch is a West Texas radio show and media project from the Sandhills Area Research Association broadcast live on KRFE 95.9 FM. Hosted by Tillery Timmons-Sims, Andy Timmons, and Dusty Timmons, the program focuses on regional agriculture, land conservation, hunting, oil and gas, and local news

This episode of Dry Side Dispatch features weed specialists Peter Dotray and Todd Baughman discussing how weed management in West Texas has become increasingly complex as herbicide resistance has developed and production systems have changed. They cover Palmer pigweed, marestail, kochia, Johnson grass, and other problem weeds, while emphasizing the importance of rotating herbicide modes of action, using residual products, and planning several seasons ahead rather than relying on a single chemistry.

The conversation also explores how cover crops, reduced tillage, wider row spacing, crop rotation, and even mechanical cultivation affect weed pressure. A recurring theme is that successful weed control now requires a more integrated approach—combining chemistry, tillage, crop competition, timing, and long-term management to prevent resistant weeds from rebuilding populations.
